nexie is made by ACME Brains™, Inc. ("ACME," "we," "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It covers the nexie app on iOS and Android, along with our websites, including acmebrains.com and mynexie.com. nexie is for people 16 and older.
nexie is currently a free beta, and we will update this policy as the product grows, for example when we add paid features or new parts of our websites.

We do not collect your date of birth, only your confirmation that you are 16 or older, and we do not ask for any more information than what is listed above.
nexie works by sending your questions to a third-party AI provider through that provider's business services. Before a question goes out, we remove the information that identifies you, and we send the question on its own, batched with other people's questions, so the provider cannot connect the question to you or link your questions to one another. The provider handles your questions under business terms that do not permit training on what you send. One thing worth knowing is that whatever you type is sent as written, so if you include personal details in a message, those details go to the provider in the text.
You may share sensitive things with nexie, for example about your health. Whatever you share is treated like all your other content, which means we keep it encrypted, we never sell it, and we never use it for ads or training. Please do not enter other people's confidential or regulated information, such as a patient's or client's records, into nexie.
We share data only with companies that help us run nexie and our websites, and only so that they can do that job for us.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, such as in response to a valid subpoena, or when we need to protect nexie and the people who use it. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. Our blog is hosted on a separate third-party platform that has its own privacy policy.
We do not use tracking or advertising cookies on our websites, and we do not run any third-party analytics on them. Any cookie we use is strictly necessary, such as one that keeps you signed in when you use nexie on the web. We serve our own fonts, so visiting our sites does not quietly share your visit with a font provider.
Our web servers keep standard access logs so that we can spot errors and understand aggregate traffic. We shorten (truncate) your IP address before saving it, so these logs cannot identify you, and we delete them after about 14 days. We do not log visits to our Privacy, Terms, Contact, Support, or account deletion pages at all. Our forms use a spam-protection service that may check your IP address and browser signals to confirm you are a real person; it does not receive what you type into the form.
Your content is encrypted while it travels and while we store it, and each user's data is kept separate in their own encrypted space, protected by keys tied to that user. No one at ACME reads your content in the ordinary course. There is no moderation queue, and no one is browsing conversations. A small number of staff can reach unencrypted data only in limited situations, such as to keep the service running, to investigate a security problem, to respond to valid legal process, or with your permission, and we log every such access.
Because a subpoena or court order can require us to disclose data, and because we hold the technical means to access it, no service can promise that your data is beyond the reach of the law, and no system is ever completely secure. We work hard to protect your data, and we would rather tell you this plainly than overpromise.
We keep your content for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual items, or your whole account, from within nexie at any time, and you can also request account and data deletion through our website or by emailing legal@acmebrains.com. When you delete your account, we remove your content and destroy the encryption keys needed to read it, so that nothing can be recovered, and copies in backups become unreadable at once and clear out within about 30 days.
For other information, we keep it only as long as we need it. Waitlist and contact-form information is kept for up to three years, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first. Website access logs are deleted after about 14 days. A few records, such as security logs, are kept a little longer where the law or the safety of the service requires, and any content already sent to the AI provider ages out under that provider's terms.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or limit certain uses. nexie is built to make most of this self-service, so you can export and delete your data from within the app. For anything else, email legal@acmebrains.com and we will be glad to help. We will not charge you or treat you differently for exercising these rights.
If you are in the EU or UK, our legal basis for handling your data is providing the service you asked for, along with our legitimate interest in running and protecting nexie and our websites and in responding to inquiries you start. You may also contact your local data protection authority.
ACME is based in the United States, and we and our providers process data in the US. If you use nexie or our websites from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, which may have different data-protection laws than your own country.
nexie is for people 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 has used nexie, please contact us and we will address it.
We will update this policy as nexie and our websites evolve, and we will post the new version here with a new date. If a change is significant, we will do our best to let you know.
